I create paintings and cutouts as a way of turning my love of the world into objects that come alive. Inspiration comes from nature—tiny pebbles or a decaying flower—as well as ordinary household objects like an old hat or a broken cup. I feel a tenderness towards all these things and their lifespans, which makes me want to render them with affection. As a process oriented artist, I work with water based paints, as well as all kinds of materials including dirt, recycled paintings, dried grass. I am interested in color and push my palette into strange terrain to arrive at combinations that feel fresh and invented. I am delighted when the final pieces remind me of something I’ve seen, but can’t quite recognize.
